Introducing our September 15th Auction Sale
Following a break from our auction schedule in August, we’re back on a real rostrum at our venue of The Grand Connaught Rooms for this sale taking place on Thursday 15th September.
It was exactly a year ago that we took the decision, some may say “bold” to return to normal and hold our auctions at our venue rather than on-line only. We thought we may be the first major auctioneer to do this and others would follow our lead but apparently not. Despite many of our fellow auctioneers coming to our auctions over the course of the last 12 months to “see how it’s done” it appears they have decided to let the most important aspect of their business, salesmanship through the skill of an experienced auctioneer, be replaced and conducted by a computer algorithm!
In fact, many press comments from these very same auctioneers quote they will “return to a venue when the time is right“, I am left wondering – what are they waiting for? Indeed, I know of at least one firm that tried selling at a venue once and after one attempt, have gone back to their eBay style sale!
So, as this is our “new normal” we will be at the venue on 15th September and, over the last 12 months, and despite train strikes, we are finding more and more of our bidders much prefer this route to bidding rather than relying on a broadband connection to bid via the internet or a mobile phone signal to bid by phone.
Internet and phone bidding does however have its place and is a great way for buyers to access the auction if a busy life and other commitments mean they can’t make it to the venue. As always, provided you have completed your bidder registration and paid the required security deposit, these ways of bidding are also open to you. However, over the last 12 months we have found that each month a greater percentage of successful bidders are those who attend the venue.
So turning to this catalogue of over 300 lots, it is an eclectic range of stock from almost all parts of the country. As you page through the catalogue either online or a physical printed catalogue (yes, we still print catalogues for those who wish to access the lots in this format), I am sure you will find plenty to excite you.
In the lead up to the sale and before you bid, please take a moment to read our buyers guides available to download from this website. It is imperative you do all your due diligence prior to the auction including instructing your solicitor or conveyancer to advise you on the content of the legal pack and special conditions of sale. When you bid at the auction you are bidding to buy and have exchanged contracts on the fall of the gavel. After the event “buyer’s remorse” does not extricate you from your responsibilities under the contract terms. Contracts are not simply ripped up or cancelled after the auction in the event that you were unaware of something due to not undertaking the appropriate enquiries and seeking advice.
We are of course here to assist with all your enquiries in the lead up to the auction so please call or email us and we’ll come straight back to you.
We look forward to extending you a warm welcome at The Grand Connaught Rooms on auction day and wish you the very best of luck with your bidding. Come to the sale you could bag a bargain!
