Introducing our final sale of 2022

The weather may well be getting colder, but our auction sales keep getting hotter especially with this, our final blockbuster sale of 2022. Combining this auction, our online sale on 7th December and all our sales this year, we will have offered to the market almost 3,000 lots, the most ever offered to auction by us since the company was formed.

Considering we are still the only major national auctioneer that has returned to the rostrum for all our mainstream sales, I guess the numbers of lots offered answers the question, yes, in a post Covid world sellers (and buyers) much prefer their lots to be offered in a multi access auction which is held live in a venue, rather than relying on the sterile and algorithmic environment of internet only sales.

Do buyers want to access auctions via the internet and telephone remotely? Clearly yes they do and the way this has developed over time mean this remains an important route for bidders to participate in our sales and will continue to be fully available.

Are there buyers who actually want to attend and participate at the sale and indeed sellers that want their properties offered by an experienced and skilled auctioneer? Yes there are and our stats prove this! Since we returned to venue sales in September last year over 3,000 people have attended our auctions. Many have said they didn’t want
to risk losing an opportunity to buy due
to a poor internet or phone connection but, the vast majority want to be there in the thick of an auction sale and fully soak up
the atmosphere.

So, whilst very expensive (possibly why so many other auctioneers are not returning to a venue sale) in 2023 we will continue offering property in this format where both remote bidders and those attending can participate in an open and transparent way with all bids treated in exactly the same way.

Turning to this sale it’s a great opportunity for buyers. Many of our clients want their lots sold this year, they have priced at levels significantly lower than we may have expected a few months ago, recognising that borrowing costs are now higher than they were in the summer and have factored this in to offer you lots at fantastic value for money.

If you intend to bid, come to the auction. It really is the only way you can properly appreciate the market, get a proper feel for what’s happening and position yourself in the best way possible to buy. In any event, Christmas is round the corner so you can combine your trip into London with property shopping and Christmas shopping, Covent Garden is just around the corner from our venue, so what better reason would you have for coming into town!

Before you bid, make sure you have carried out all your due diligence, buyers guides are available to download from our website and my team is here to assist with all your enquiries in the lead up to the auction. One other factor to remember is completion periods, especially given the holiday season, so please make sure you have everything lined up and your solicitor won’t be taking an extended break that could cause frustrations at completion.

Finally, from myself and my team, we would like to thank all our sellers and buyers for their support throughout 2022, we wish you season’s greetings, a happy, healthy and prosperous 2023 but before then, look forward to welcoming you to The Grand Connaught Rooms on Tuesday 20th December for our final sale of the year.

Wishing you the best of luck with your bidding!
